Paper-supported WS2 strain gauges

چکیده

• Direct abrasion provides a cost effective way to deposit tungsten disulphide (WS2) on paper substrates. The deposited film electrical resistance strongly depends the applied mechanical strain. gauge factor can reach values up ~70, one order of magnitude larger than similar devices with graphite sensing layer. Paper-supported strain gauges be used monitor deformations in resonators and measure forces masses. These interesting disposable electronic applications. Environmentally friendly low-cost sensors are needed for next generation electronics Given its low-cost, availability biodegradability, paper-based very promising. Here we demonstrate fabrication (WS 2 ) sensor standard copy paper. WS is through direct powder against surface making device low-tech effective. fabricated present factors ~70 strains the±0.5% range. ~ 9 times that obtained same geometry but using instead as sensitive material. We potential these -on-paper by integrating them directly cantilever sense mass forces. show how this simple detect sub-milligram Moreover, also capability transducing motion gluing their surface.

Pencil Drawn Strain Gauges and Chemiresistors on Paper

Pencil traces drawn on print papers are shown to function as strain gauges and chemiresistors. Regular graphite/clay pencils can leave traces composed of percolated networks of fine graphite powders, which exhibit reversible resistance changes upon compressive or tensile deflections. Flexible toy pencils can leave traces that are essentially thin films of graphite/polymer composites, which show...

Nonlinearity and Hysteresis of Resonant Strain Gauges

Nonlinearity and hysteresis effects of electrostatically activated, voltage driven resonant microbridges have been studied theoretically and experimentally. It is shown, that, in order to avoid vibration instability and hysteresis to occur, the choices of the ax . and d.c. driving voltages and of the quality factor of a resonator, with a given geometry and choice of materials, are limited by a ...

Paper-Supported Collaborative Work

Using ethnographic studies, we show how paper is integral to collaborative work in three very different organisational settings. Reasons for the use of paper as opposed to electronic alternatives are analysed in terms of the local aspects of interaction it supports, and also the ways in which use of paper has evolved hand-in-hand with organisational work practice. The implications of these find...

Highly Sensitive Skin-Mountable Strain Gauges Based Entirely on Elastomers

Quantifying naturally occurring strains in soft materials, such as those of the human body, requires strain gauges with equal or greater mechanical compliance. This manuscript reports materials and mechanics approaches are reported for an all-elastomer strain measurement device with gauge factor as high as 29 and with Young’s modulus that approaches that of the human epidermis. These systems us...

Calculation of Long Bone Loading Using Strain Gauges

The standard methodology for measuring loads in long bones is the in situ load cell, which enables direct measurements, but alters the stiffness and mass of the subject bone. Bone loading can also be calculated by applying linear beam theory to measurements from strain gauges affixed to the bone surface. The efficacy of the strain gauge method was assessed in this study by mounting three strain...
